We took our time winding down the Californian coast. We had high hopes of typical spring break days on a hot beach. Too bad for us, the weather was foggy and cloudy, not really beach lounging weather. We still had most superb time.

The first day we drove all the way to the redwoods. The next morning we drove the last few miles to the coast and then took a little hike on the coast.

See here, this is the first time we saw the Californian coast.

These were the views we had on our hike. Those are redwood trees over there. We also saw some sort of bird of prey on the hike, the first of many.

"Hey guys, will I fit?" Driving through the Redwood forest was tricky at times with the large van. Luckily I was able to drive around this particular obstacle.

After examining the redwood forest we motored on to north of San Fran. We arrived late and the campground gates were locked. We thought about camping in this field, but there seemed to be a lot snakes, mice, and good god, rabbits. So instead, we wedged ourselves prostrate inside of the van and slept.

The four of us really made it to San Francisco. Here we are posing with that famous bridge that they have there.

After looking at houses, checking out a beach with the bridge, we went down to fisherman's Warf. I took a picture of those famous street cars, but we didn't ride them.

The golden gate from Fisherman's Warf.

While eating lunch we spotted this little boy who looked like he was having a most horrific time. He was especially amusing when a pigeon landed near him and he nearly shat his pants. We decided to call him Spot.

Here is another picture of Spot. Spot provided countless minutes of laughter, discussion, and debate in  the van long after we left San Francisco. Spot will always be remembered by all of us. We thought maybe he was so upset because he had to go to the wax museum (notice the balloon) instead of Ghirardellis.

Ghirardelli serves savory ice cream. We got some and it was savory.

As we were trying to leave town we got caught up in a protest march. They were protesting the one year anniversary of the begin of the war or something. "no war no war" they said.

From san fran we drove to santa cruz. The sign says it is never winter in Santa Cruz, except for the day we were there I guess.

Since it was cold, instead of swimming at the beach, we rode an old wooden roller coaster. Instead of buying the pictures they took of us riding, I took a picture of the pictures.

That night we camped by Strawberry fields forever.

Near the campground there was an honest to goodness haunted house. Look at that, if that isn't a haunted house, what is?

From Santa Cruz south we drove south on highway 1, which features such treacherous paths as this bridge

And awesome views as this one.

We stopped and examined this little lagoon and fantasized about building a house on that rock out cropping.

That night we camped near Santa Barbara. We enjoyed this sunset, followed by dirty rice, followed by stars.
