There was no question about it, I had to go visit Heather while she was doing her exchange in Rennes. Over the weekend of March 21 2003, I took a Friday off of work and took the 13 hour night train (delayed one hour to make it 14) to Rennes, France where Heather met me at the train station.

Heather on the River by her apartment

Heather's friend, Lindsay, is recovering from appendicitis

Rennes is full of crooked buildings. I found them very interesting and don't really understand them

Some graffiti right by Heather's apartment building.

First thing Saturday morning we caught the train North to Saint Malo. We were a little bored so we took pictures of ourselves.

Saint Malo is a fortified city with a wall all the way around. At one point on Saturday I had a collision with the wall that still hurts as I write this.

The French had to protect themselves from the British

Heather is walking along some of the wall

Heather standing on Saint Malo's beach. Saint Malo has the largest tide in Europe and when it went out we were able to walk out to that island out there.

We hung out with this seagull for a while. His name is Alexander

That is Saint Malo there in the background.

The tide went out and we explored that island. It was treacherous. Heather slipped as we were walking around the fortification and cut both her legs on the sharp barnacled rocks.

We walked out to another island. This one had a tomb of a poet and lots of grass. We relaxed.

We hiked to a third island with another fortification ordered to be built by Louis XIV.

Another angle. Saint Malo is in the background.

The next morning the tide was back in. That is my girlfriend there standing next to me
