One of my travel goals was to go to a
place that I had never really heard of. Slovenia was that place. We spent
a week in the Julian Alps of Slovenia on the beautiful lake Bled. We had
lots of super adventures: Canyoning, rafting, hiking, and climbing the highest mountain in this
country I had never heard of. And I promise you it isn't a short mountain.

This is the lake that we chilled at for one week.

Like everywhere in Europe there was a castle in Slovenia. Slovenia is also
cool because they have 'Erik' Juice.

The first day we walked through a gorge and also hiked up to the castle
and another mountain, and oh yah, we swam to the island with the church.

On the way back from the gorge we bought a beer and watched this machine
destroy this house. It was cool.

The next day we went canyoning and rafting. My camera breaks when it gets
wet so I didn't bring it even thought there were many photo worthy
moments. I had to wear all that gear to protect myself from the cold water
and encase I hit my head on a rock when I jumped off of a waterfalls.

The next day we took a bus to the mountain pass and made some easy hikes.

The next day we started our two day hike up the tallest mountain in
Slovenia by stopping at this waterfall.

After hiking up over 15000 meters some weather started to move in.

The bad weather moved in really fast and we had no choice but to scramble
to this cave.

Here is our view from the cave while we weathered the storm, normally
there is an entire valley with mountains to be seen. There was
waterfall falling down in front of our faces. The coolest (or scariest)
part was when a massive bolt struck the mountain outside our 'window'. It
was so strong that I saw rocks explode off of the mountain. It was insane.

That night we were chased by another storm to our final destination of the
day, this hut. (The weather was the opposite when I took the photo. I took
this the next morning) We spent the night in this hut with the weather
pounding on the window.

This was the view outside our hut in the morning. That is Mount Triglav on
the right behind the sheep. The night before everything was gray and
purple and black.

Heather walking on an easier section of the path up the mountain.

This part, with thousands of feet of drop off on each side, was trickier.

Finally and safely after 14 hours of hiking we made it to the top.

It is hard to make out from this picture but we could see Venice from the
top.

I couldn't resist, another picture at the tip top of Slovenia.

Hiking Mt. Triglav was no walk in the park.

Heather and I are mountaineers. We loved Slovenia. Besides Deutschland, I
think it is my favorite country in Europa.
