Feb 2003

I am in Germany doing an internship with Knorr-Bremse. Here is a picture documentation of a typical day.

6:59 -- My alarm goes off, I snooze a little and then I finally roll out of bed and urinate, brush my teeth, and the sort.

7:17 -- For breakfast I eat some Muesli with yogurt.

7:50 -- I trudge through the snow and wander out of the Olympiadorf apartment complex.

7:51 -- Across the street there is the gate to Knorr Bremse.

7:52 -- I show the guard my ID.

7:54 -- This is the building I work in.

7:55 -- And that is my window on the top floor.

7:56 -- Everyday I punch in and punch out using this machine and my ID. I am currently 21.6 hours ahead.

7:58 -- These are the stairs I have to take to my office.

8:01 -- here is my desk and the rest of the office. There are about 20 other people in this room.

8:05 -- Here is my window.

9:23 -- This object sits on my desk. It is an analogwandlerteil.

9:59 -- So my job today is to translate this document

9:59 -- Using this dictionary and the German I learned in highschool and from my parents.

11:35 -- Typical Bavarian lunch is served in the basement of this building.

3:33 -- This is where they store all the pieces to make brake parts.

4:27 -- This is the view from my window. That is Olympiadorf and the olympia tower.

6:30 -- I leave Knorr-Bremse

6:32 -- On the way home I watch the subway construction for a while.

6:36 -- And I walk down the hall to my room

6:37 -- I load up my backpack with empty glass bottles

6:38 -- And I walk

6:39 -- To the grocery store

6:39 -- The small prices live here.

6:40 -- I return my empty bottles into this machine and get a couple euros back.

6:45 -- I don't use a shopping cart, instead I just load up my backpack and they don't think I am stealing. Most people bring their own bags to the store and load them up.

7:00 -- This is the bakery but it is closed already.

7:02 -- This is where I enter my apartment building

7:03 -- I'll check my mail. Mine is 507 B, the one with the yellow tag.

7:03 -- What's this? A letter from France! A letter from Heather!

11:27 -- After some e-mail writing, book reading, and TV watching I go to bed.
