The weather at the beginning of our
third day was stunning, as were the views from our camp. The next few
pictures are from that morning.

The sun rising behind the Taulliraju mountain at the head of the valley.
The pass is just to the right, out of the picture.

One of my favorite mountains that looked especially stunning with the
light shinning on it. Notice the fresh snow on the lower mountain. It
snowed our third night.

This mountain is just to the left of Alpamayo, the world's most beautiful
mountain. We couldn't see Alpamayo on our second day due to cloudy
weather. The weather on the third day was great, but Alpamayo was hidden
behind another ridge.

The mountain on the right is the same as the one two pictures up.

Me standing next to our tent. When we went to bed it was raining so hard
that our tent was like a waterbed. When we woke in the morning our tent
was ice encrusted.

Heather and I in front of the paramount mountain.

A zoom-in of glacier on one of the mountains.

Heather and Perro getting near the pass.

Achilles and the donkeys carrying our stuff. (most of it is camping gear
and food. Our personal belongings, such as sleeping bags and clothes, only
took up one third of one donkey.)

As we neared the pass some clouds moved in.

But the view back down the valley was still great.

Near the pass there was also a lake. The pass was the highest elevation we
had either ever been at in our lives, 15,637 feet.

Heather and Erik at the pass. The notch in the stone to make the pass
easier for donkey's was made by the Incans.

Some mountains on the other side of the pass.
