For a week, no shaving leaves me hairy and no showering leaves me filthy. But no watches, no plans, no TV's, no radios, and no cell phones leaves me relaxed.

Heather and I and her brother and his girlfriend all went on a trip to the Olympic Peninsula in the first week of September, 2002. We spent a week meandering our way around the entire peninsula stopping at places that looked interesting, eating when we got hungry, and going to bed when we got tired. Enjoy the following pictures. There are a bunch, so please let them load.

The first night, Friday, we camped at Sol Duc campground. Saturday we hiked to Sol Duc falls in the late morning. After we drove to the Olympic Hot Springs trail head.

Along the trail to the Olympic Hot Springs Heather photographed some wild creatures.

After an hour and a half of hiking we found an empty hot spring, we put on our suits and soaked our bodies in the egg smelling water until it began to rain. It rained and rained. Sunday morning it was still raining, we decided to sleep until the rain stopped. We ended up not leaving the campsite until 3.

Once the rain stopped we went down to explore Rialto beach. I made these birds fly and then took pictures of them.

Heather spotted some more creatures: sea lions. We spent a good deal of time watching them watching us watching them.

We then examined the tide pools, which were full of more creatures.

The destination of our beach hike was this formation called hole in the wall. On the way back to the car I said to Heather, "you know, the weather has been very nice, considering how it has been." A minute later it began to pour and it poured the entire 2 mile hike back to the car. We were soaked to the bone.

While camping, Heather did most of the cooking. We set up that fancy tarp system to protect ourselves from the rain (which happens sometimes in the rainforest).

While camping, I did most of the fire building and tending. The rain made some of my attempts less than successful.

Good things come to those who wait. Monday the weather improved dramatically and we drove to Ruby beach and checked out some sea stacks.

I think I may have said something to anger Heather.

We skipped some rocks at Ruby Beach.

In the Afternoon we went further south to Beach 1. We spent most of the afternoon burning our backs and building our version of Neuschwanstein.

We played in the ocean.

We flew some kites.

And then we watched the sunset.

Our final day Tuesday was spent hiking deep into the Quinalt rainforest. We found some mushrooms.

And we found some really really big trees. I like really really big trees.
