So the second day of the weekend (Sunday, January 19th 2003) was a beautiful day. So, instead of taking the subway, I walked to Castle Nymphenburg. It was nearly 5km and took me well over a hour. But it was a nice day, so it was ok.

Along the way I spotted this.

The entire canal up to the castle (that is the castle in the background) was frozen. Mobs of people were ice skating, playing hockey, curling, and pushing their babies in strollers on the ice.

Here is a German guy simultaneously smoking a pipe and making a curling shot.

The lake in front of the castle was loaded with white swans.

Here are some swans standing in the glare of the sun off of the ice.

Here is a pair of swans.

This swam is doing something funny

I took a lot of pictures of swans

The castle has a huge garden including a few lakes. That sign there says "Stepping onto the ice surface is not allowed! Danger of breaking through."

Everyone else was doing it so I did it to. Look I am standing on a lake.

This is the castle from the other side.

After the castle I went to the largest park in Munich. The English Garden.

A view of downtown Munich and part of the park.

The famous Chinese Tower in the English Garden.

Look! A beer garden on the lake.
