Goat Ridge |

I've turned Heather into a physicist and a wake boarder
and she has turned me into a hiker. On August 9th 2002 her dad and brother
and I all trucked south of Mt. Rainier where we set up camp and then
looked at the millions of stars that you don't see when you are closer to
town. We could really see the constellations instead of just making them
up. The next morning early we woke and began our 13-mile day hike. This
what we saw along the way.
The title of our destination. I thought it was called 'goat' because the rocks are so badass that you can't call them anything but 'goat.' But it turns out they are called that because goats walk on them.
We had glimpse of what was in store on the way up.
Heather and her dad crossing a meadow on the way to the goat rocks.
These are the goat rocks. We hiked a big loop along the ridge. We stopped for lunch in the center there right above the waterfall that you can just barely see. The next couple pictures are taken from that spot.
Some people (or maybe goats) didn't make it.

Heather and I framing Mt. Adams.
All of us at the top.
Here is a side of Mt. Rainier that you don't see too often.
13 miles later we were a little more than pooped out. |
